About Alex

Drawn to themes of growth and transformation, Alex Jutras explores how objects, spaces, and personal histories can be reworked and reimagined. Her work challenges traditional notions of material value by using found objects and spray paint, leading to unexpected results.

Alex studied at Clark University in Worcester, MA, graduating with honors in Studio Art and Media, Culture, and the Arts in 2019. Her appreciation for using found materials began as a way to save money on art supplies during college, but evolved into a creative challenge. She repurposed discarded items, including plastic bags found on sidewalks, old canvases from high school, and leftover charcoal and newsprint from the studio. These early experiments laid the foundation for her current art style and became an extension of her passion for sustainability.

After returning to her hometown in Maine in 2021, Alex launched her "Leaf Illuminations" art series, which uses foraged oak leaves and branches from her childhood backyard as stencils for spray-painted compositions. This series was showcased in the "Forage" exhibition at the New Hampshire Art Association in May 2024 and was adapted into a mural installation at the WC Gallery in September 2024.

Now based in New Hampshire, Alex's growing passion for surfing, skating, and snowboarding has led her to co-found Back Alley Boards, where she merges her artistic vision with her love for these sports. Alex continues to connect with and strengthen her local community through sustainability, art, and creative collaboration. She is actively involved in galleries and arts organizations and serves as a Board Advisor for the New Hampshire Art Association.
